Day 1

Welcome to Day 1 of the clean eating challenge! My recommendation is to:

  1. Start your day off with at least 32 ounces of water before eating any food
  2. Exercise at least 30 minutes
  3. Drink a green smoothie for breakfast
  4. Eat salad or soup for lunch
  5. Have a snack in mid-afternoon (toss in another snack if still hungry, here is a link to some ideas:
  6. End your day with a Paleo-friendly meal

    Good morning from BareRoot Kitchen! For those who are brave enough to commit to this five day challenge, I wanted to update you on my morning. I got up at 3 (that is sleeping in a little, I am an early riser). I busted my butt to get to the gym by 4:45 to get in a 5 mile run before my first meeting with a physical trainer. It comes free with my gym membership, so I thought I would give it a whirl, but the guy was a no show. Probably a holiday mix up, but his truancy resulted in me running 6.1 instead of 5 miles so that wasn’t so bad! My workout went really well! I felt really light on my feet and had tons of energy (not typical at 5 am).

    Other than getting in a work out I also prepped some kale chips last night (they were ready this morning as I let the dehydrator go all night) and made the green detox smoothie this AM. Both are delicious! I am actually going to have my Southwestern Chicken Salad (without the corn; here is link: and make a new recipe for dinner (spaghetti squash carbonara with bacon and mushrooms; I will try to post the recipe today or tomorrow). Feel free to substitute recipes based on what you have available. Just make sure they are Paleo Friendly (no grains, processed sugars, legumes and dairy). I have food guides under this link
